I am very happy doing all these acts of kindness. I feel proud of myself for helping to make the world a better place. I am also inspired by many adult sponsors who decided to sponsor a child and that child became a big man later in the future and started helping others. We are releasing children from poverty and it is a very big honor to help children that are in these hard situations.

I watched this video from Compassion UK when they came to our church. It was sad and touching but inspiring at the same time because he was sponsored and became a better adult now helping others too.

Watch the story of Richmond Wandera, from Uganda.

‘’To hear words as I love you, I am praying for you brings healing into places that were destroyed by voices, poverty, and self-image, Poverty robs children from the dignity of choice’’, said Richmond.

Compassion UK is 69 years established, Christ-centred charity. They work across 25 different countries saving children from extreme poverty. It is often done through a one-to-one sponsorship model which means a child in need is linked to a sponsor. A lot of adults sponsor a child by donating money regularly to help the child have good food and education. The adult also gets the chance to write letters to the sponsored child and receive letters, pictures from the sponsored child. This is very cool as they get to know how the child is doing every time.

I find this process of sponsoring a child very good and helpful, although, I am not sponsoring a child because I am still very young. I hope to do so in the future when I grow up and have my money. My parent sponsors a child at the moment. Her picture is within our family gallery area because she is part of our family, though she lives in Africa.

I have been writing letters as well as drawing pictures for her. I love drawing and It’s really fun writing encouraging words to your friend. I see her as my sister. Spending a few minutes doing a drawing or painting for others isn’t a lot of work when you try it. Once you have tried it, you start to enjoy it and you can imagine the happiness on their faces when they read it. This is because you are also happy writing and doing all the drawings.

They send letters back to you so you can learn about them as well, like your favourite hobby’s and what you did over the summer, or holidays. I learned a lot about Uganda already even though I have not been there. They might even write to you and tell you about a problem they are having in their country. Sharing a problem together and trying to help each other will really help everyone with both normal health, mental health, and spiritual health.

If you don’t know what to write in your letters, Compassion UK will give you ideas. You can ask them questions like, ‘Do you go to Sunday school?’ or ‘How are you doing with school’.

If your parent sponsors a child with Compassion UK, why not try sending letters and drawings to the sponsored child and make friends with them. It is fun and great to do so.
